COURSES TAUGHT

  • FIN 4318, Financial Analysis of the Firm and Its Valuation: Course covers the techniques of analysis of the firm’s book and market values, and new investments.

  • FIN 4315, Portfolio Analysis: Course employs mean-variance analysis to determine efficient portfolios and presents techniques for calculating efficient frontiers. Uses single- and multi-index models to calculate correlation structures of security returns. It examines models of equilibrium in capital markets, international diversification and other selection models.

  • FIN 3310, Business Finance: Introduction to the concepts of finance as applied in a business environment. Topics covered include financial environment, time value of money, stock and bond valuation, capital budgeting, capital structure, and working capital management

  • FIN 5325, International Financial Management (Teaching assistant): Master’s course examining the managerial implications pertaining to the financial operations of the firm and investments in the international arena.

  • FIN 4315A, Portfolio Analysis Laboratory: The application of Excel to problem solving related to portfolio management, such as the development of stock and bond portfolios, hedging, and portfolio evaluation.

  • FIN 4311A, Managerial Finance Laboratory: The application of Excel to problem solving in areas related to Managerial Finance, such as the development and utilization of financial plans, policies and practices in business enterprises.


  • GMAT Prep Course: Three-day courses two or three times per semester for UTEP’s College of Business, focusing on boosting scores on the Quantitative and Verbal sections of the GMAT. Overall course rating is 4.7 out of 5, and the average score of students admitted to UTEP’s MBA program has increased almost 25 percent since course was launched.

 
 

RESEARCH INTERESTS

My research explores the ways financial markets receive and price information, in particular from news media, social media and networks, and analysts. It includes examinations of market efficiency and asset pricing, as well as corporate finance.

 
 

OTHER EXPERIENCE

April 2011 — June 2013 and March 2015 — June 2017: As a U.S. government contract employee, I reported and wrote articles on training, career development and Army programs for the service’s enlisted leadership. Also edited stories, and produced informational graphics, photographs, illustrations, and videos.

July 2013— February 2015: Oversaw company’s 20-person design hub, which designed and edited seven daily newspapers and other products. In charge of digital media outlets of the El Paso Times.

Assistant Managing Editor and other positions

October 2005 — March 2011: Led staff of 15 copy editors/page designers, and oversaw newsroom budget of approximately $2 million, including employee salaries, office expenditures, and other expenses. Forecast annual budget. Positions also included identifying and serving niche audiences outside the daily newspaper’s readership through digital platforms and specialty print products.
